Choose Wisely
When searching for a family law attorney for a divorce, child custody dispute, child support matter, or domestic violence issue here’s a tip you won’t hear from many of us: shop around. Take your time (assuming you’re temporarily safe from any abuse). Ask lots of questions and get the answers in writing on letterhead. Find an attorney you are comfortable speaking to. Find one who listens. Find one you can afford. Find one who is going to fight for you but will be careful with your billing. Demand an attorney who practices only family law and insist upon a free consultation. Family law matters are inherently difficult and stressful, but if you take the time to choose the right attorney for you, your children, and your family, you can save yourself a lot of money, time, and aggravation down the road.
